Pilates is very precise. It is based on ‘quality’ rather than ‘quantity’
and is increasingly being used to complement the work of
physiotherapists and osteopaths. It is beneficial in helping with past
injuries and avoiding new ones in all aspects of daily life. In
addition, it can also relieve tension and stress.
You are taught to align your body perfectly before starting an exercise, and then to isolate individual muscle groups, in order to work them without putting strain on other areas. Pilates teaches the body to regain normal movement by engaging the deep postural, core muscles and switching off the overactive large muscle groups, sometimes specialist equipment is used.
As you strengthen the body's central core muscles, it will help you to stand straighter and hold your upper body correctly, thus improving your posture.
If you suffer with back problems, you will learn to build up the weaker core muscles, which in turn will help to protect the spine and relieve the strain on injured areas. If you participate in sports, a stronger core will enhance your performance.
